Fear, negative self talk, the inner critic

Wednesday, August 15, 2007, 06:13 PM GMT [General]

Recently there were a number of posts from Joe and Darren regarding fear, negative self talk, stopping the inner critic and the picture from Steven showing a huge slate that people wrote their fears and concerns on. The slate would be subsequestly erased on a daily basis.

I can think of one place that the slate would be put to good use. Last week my wife Carol and I decided to take our children on a day trip to Oakwood, a theme park in Wales. This park is a no frills and plenty of thrills theme park. Earlier in July we were in Euro Disney Paris for a few days and having been to Disney in Florida previously there is no comparision between the Disney parks and Oakwood. At least this was the unanimous decision of my children and nephew. On a side note, I have come to the conclusion that Walt Disney ranks as one of the worlds greatest hypnotists - he's hypnotising thousands of people everday, me included!

However, in Oakwood it was fascinating to listen to the conversations of people as they queued for the various rides. It was very obvious that there was a lot of negative internal dialogue apparent as people battled with confronting their fears. The majority managed to sum up the courage to complete the rides while others gave into their fears.

Could these people have benefited from the services of a hypnotist? Absolutely! Theme parks, particularly Oakwood, where a client's fear can become manifest would be a good testing ground to determine the success of a hypnotic intervention. It may not be the environment that everyone would choose but it's worth considering.

Here's a video of one of the rides that we went on during the day:

When it was time to leave to catch the ferry back to Ireland we all had constant smiles on our faces. It may be because we cheated death or the amount of adrenalin flowing in our system. The only question that was asked on the way home was when are we going back!

    Hypnotists are obscene, smutty, lewd...

Tuesday, July 24, 2007, 12:53 AM GMT [General]

I have been conducting some research for a project I'm currently working on and was browsing some of the video hosting services available i.e. videogoogle, youtube etc. In researching hypnosis related videos on these services I have found a high percentage of the videos to be obscene, smutty, lewd, vulgar and offensive on a number of counts:

    1. They contribute to undermining the professional practice of hypnotism.
    2. They degrade the hypnotised subject.
    3. They project the image of the hypnotised subject as being controlled by the hypnotist.
    4. They create the image that hypnotists are egotists.
    5. They propagate fear of hypnosis.

If I were a prospective client considering hypnosis and had watched some of these videos I wouldn't even consider going to a hypnotist. Many of the videos have a high star rating, indicating there popularity, and have been viewed in there thousands'. They contain sexual content and references that are offensive, degrading, and inappropriate conduct for any hypnotist proclaiming to be certified.

Are you one of those so-called hypnotists practicing obscene, smutty, lewd, and vulgar hypnotism?
If your answer is NO, then how do you express your professional standing to the world?

By becoming a World Hypnotism Day participant you will have access to a number of free resources that will help you get your message out in different mediums.

I realise that it may be impossible to prevent these despicable videos making there way onto the internet. However, as Tom Nicoli stated in a previous blog you can make a difference by spreading the truth about hypnotism. It's our profession to preserve and grow! Stand up and make your voice be heard by becoming a World Hypnotism participant.

    Question:

Why have you chosen to read this blog post?
Was it because of the derogatory title that prompted you to take action and read more?

If YES, then it demonstrates that you are concerned about your professional practice of hypnosis. Don't wait for derogatory comments before you decide to take the next step!

Are you getting out of your practice?

Sunday, July 8, 2007, 03:31 AM GMT [General]

Hypnotists work day-in and day-out in an office environment and may need an outlet or change of scenery.

One outlet for me is to get out and about and let the wind blow through my curly, wavy locks!!

    Watch the video below....

Do you take the time to get out of your practice?
