    Hypnotists are obscene, smutty, lewd...

Tuesday, July 24, 2007, 12:53 AM GMT [General]

I have been conducting some research for a project I'm currently working on and was browsing some of the video hosting services available i.e. videogoogle, youtube etc. In researching hypnosis related videos on these services I have found a high percentage of the videos to be obscene, smutty, lewd, vulgar and offensive on a number of counts:

    1. They contribute to undermining the professional practice of hypnotism.
    2. They degrade the hypnotised subject.
    3. They project the image of the hypnotised subject as being controlled by the hypnotist.
    4. They create the image that hypnotists are egotists.
    5. They propagate fear of hypnosis.

If I were a prospective client considering hypnosis and had watched some of these videos I wouldn't even consider going to a hypnotist. Many of the videos have a high star rating, indicating there popularity, and have been viewed in there thousands'. They contain sexual content and references that are offensive, degrading, and inappropriate conduct for any hypnotist proclaiming to be certified.

Are you one of those so-called hypnotists practicing obscene, smutty, lewd, and vulgar hypnotism?
If your answer is NO, then how do you express your professional standing to the world?

By becoming a World Hypnotism Day participant you will have access to a number of free resources that will help you get your message out in different mediums.

I realise that it may be impossible to prevent these despicable videos making there way onto the internet. However, as Tom Nicoli stated in a previous blog you can make a difference by spreading the truth about hypnotism. It's our profession to preserve and grow! Stand up and make your voice be heard by becoming a World Hypnotism participant.

    Question:

Why have you chosen to read this blog post?
Was it because of the derogatory title that prompted you to take action and read more?

If YES, then it demonstrates that you are concerned about your professional practice of hypnosis. Don't wait for derogatory comments before you decide to take the next step!

Martin... I so appreciate your presence in our profession and once again applaud your ongoing support of World Hypnotism Day and demonstrating what a hypnotism professional is.

It is by no mistake you remain the Lead in Ireland for World Hypnotism Day as you continue to walk the walk and act as the type of professional I anticipate seeing more of in our honorable profession.

And the sooner all ethical hypnotists join the vehicle WHD has proven to be as a way to promote hypnotism in the light in deserves, the better it will be for us all.

    Sincerely,
    Tom

    Martin,
I agree with your stand on how we present ourselves to the world via video, or with any other medium. We need to do whatever we can to be IMPECCABLE in our presentation on whatever level we choose. So thumbs down for those who are less than IMPECCABLE and thumbs-up for future videos and media that present us in the light behooving to us all. Time for damage control, not a minute to lose. I will post my video on youtube, thanks to your support. I suggest that others make "good viewing" of our practice a priority. Thanks for watching out for us.
